What is User Generated Content?

Wikipedia description says: (UGC) covers a range of media content available in a range of modern communications technologies. It entered mainstream usage during 2005 having arisen in web publishing and new media content production circles. Its use for a wide range of applications, including problem processing, news, gossip and research, reflects the expansion of media production through new technologies that are accessible and affordable to the general public. All digital media technologies are included, such as question-answer databases, digital video, blogging, podcasting, forums, review-sites, social networking, david building and discovery.

How has ShareItMobile created the platform to allow media companies and larger member groups to create, share and manage reports created on the mobile device?

The advent of user generated content UCG has created a shift among media and member organizations from creating content to providing a facility for the public to publish their own content.

The UGC platform allows for a conversational or two way exchange of content and ideas. With the creation of the new media and many more interactive users these users are demanding the media companies provide an interactive platform. The active, participatory and creative audience is prevailing today with relatively accessible media, tools and applications, and its culture is in turn affecting mass media corporations and global audiences.

In 2006 CNN launched CNN iReport, a project designed to bring user generated news content to CNN. Its rival Fox News Channel launched its project to bring in user-generated news, similarly titled "uReport". This was typical of major television news organizations in 2005-2006, who realized, particularly in the wake of the 7th July bombings, that citizen journalism could now become a significant part of broadcast news. Sky News, for example, regularly solicits for photographs and video from its viewers.

User Generated Content was featured at Time magazine's person of the year in 2006. The "person" that year was you. They were giving the award to all of the people that had contributed to user generated media around the world.

User Generated Content and Citizen Journalism, which can also be called guerilla, public, or street journalism. The concept of the public playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information. Using your mobile device to capture and create reports to submit to the media in your area.

ShareItMobile has created a platform where the typical user of a mobile device can create and submit their (UCG) report or news event to the media or member organization and get recognized for their contribution and increase their social capital.

Freedom of the press. ShareItMobile has freed the presses to allow every user to interact with their media or member organization. When a user creates or comments on a UCG report, they are building a two way dialog in the community. The better contributors will be recognized as trusted sources and authorities in specific content areas.

Hyperlocal journalism: The public is now sharing with the media outlets what is important. The ability for the public to publish content up to their local newspaper, radio and TV station has never been greater. These citizen journalists are using their mobile devices with ShareItMobile to create a new standard of community interaction.

Crowdsourcing:

Allows the organization to give the crowd an assignment instead of an individual. The assumption is that the best suited in the crowd will respond and often you will get an expert in that area who is more knowledgeable on that topic than a traditional journalist.

Crowd outsourcing also allows the organization to have thousands or tens of thousands of more eyes and feet on the ground than any workforce. Because there are so many more feet on the ground crowdsourcing will product more time sensitive reports and potentially provide more.
